Anti static wrist strap how to use

Here’s how to use anti-static wrist strap by bonding with PC case. First, Turn off the PC. Now turn the power switch on the power supply to “OFF” and disconnect the power cord. Press and hold the PC power button to drain any remaining power from the circuits.


This step is more important if you’ve used the PC recently. An anti - static wrist strap , also called an electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap , is a safety device worn on your wrist that prevents the buildup of static electricity.

ESD straps are primarily used when working with electronic components. When properly worn, the highly conductive threads that make up the strap direct static electricity to a ground where it can be discharged safely. This protects the components from damage and keeps the wearer safe. Wear the anti static wrist strap with the metal touching your skin. Know where your grounding pin is located before attaching the alligator clip.


IMPORTANT: Depending on where you are located will be where the grounding pin is. The risk of being electrocuted is high if you are to play games in choosing the right pin. Next, attach the ground conductor to any metallic surface on the case or chassis.

Locate the alligator clip (toothed metallic clip with a spring-loaded caliper) that sits at the end of the cord attached to the strap and connect it to any non-painted metal part of the PC case.


Put the antistatic wrist strap around your wrist , making sure the metal is touching your skin. Secure the strap for a snug, yet comfortable fit. The metal should stay in constant contact with your skin so the ESD can be properly redirected.
